Volunteering at Share

At Share we rely on our volunteers to keep us running, and in return we offer a relaxed, calm environment where you will meet a variety of people and be part of something really important. We appreciate that your time is precious and we will work with you to make sure that you have a fulfilling role, with great training and learning opportunities guaranteed.

Here are some current ways to get involved at Share.

Board Roles

We are actively recruiting for trustees, including trustees with specific knowledge of HR and/or clinical governance. To apply for either of these roles on our board, please send your CV and a Covering Letter to office@sharepsychotherapy.org.

Specialist Trustee / Advisor Roles

Share Psychotherapy (Share) is recruiting for new trustees or specialist advisors to join our board and help guide our work providing long-term counselling and psychotherapy to people across Sheffield, especially those facing financial hardship.

We are in an exciting phase of development, engaging with key stakeholders to shape our 5-year framework 2026 – 2030.

Using your skills in leadership, communication, integrity and openness, you will work alongside the board to support Share’s future.

Currently, we are particularly looking for trustees with knowledge and experience in HR, Legal and/or Charity Governance, Clinical and Safeguarding.

General Trustee Roles

We are also looking for general trustees to support the work of our organisation and help guide our work providing long-term counselling and psychotherapy to people across Sheffield, especially those facing financial hardship.

General Trustees contribute their skills, judgement and experience to the Board, supporting the Chair, other trustees, staff and volunteers to ensure the charity is well run and forward looking.

Becoming a trustee might feel daunting. Thus, to enable people from all walks of life to become a trustee we are committed to supporting people who have not been involved at senior management or board levels to become a trustee. This would require a somewhat higher time commitment for induction and ongoing training/mentoring.

If you’d like to discuss these opportunities, in the first instance please contact our Chair, Astrid Walker Bourne astrid.walkerbourne@sharepsychotherapy

Reception Roles

We are looking for people with some reception experience who are interested in supporting us as we try to extend our office cover rota. We are trying to provide office support to our therapists and clients five days per week. If you would like to volunteer in a supportive and interesting therapeutic environment and have reception skills or experience, this is the opportunity for you!

Download the role description here.

If you would like to support us in this way, please get in touch.

Share is committed to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and will carry out DBS checks for all volunteers, trustees, and staff.

Therapist Roles

We are always keen to hear from qualified therapists. As Share is a voluntary organisation, we would not be able to offer low-cost therapy without the generosity of our therapists.

Volunteering with Share will give you the opportunity to work with clients who cannot otherwise access psychotherapy, over a long period of time. Beyond direct one-one therapy, there are opportunities to develop skills in assessment, long-term therapy and participate in research projects.

Qualified Therapists

Are you a fully qualified (BACP/HCPC/UKCP) counsellor, creative therapist or psychotherapist able to spare three or four hours per week? Would you like to join a small but vital mental health charity in Sheffield, facilitating weekly, long-term psychotherapy for those most in need?

We ask our qualified therapists to commit to 4 hours a week, for a minimum of a year.

In return we offer:

  • Fortnightly supervision groups. (a max of 4 therapists in each group).

  • Ad hoc support from our clinical team.

  • Free access to regular CPD events with both in-house trainers and external facilitators.

  • Use of Share’s extensive physical library.

If interested, please contact our office at office@sharepsychotherapy.org.
